HOW WE SERVE & WHERE WE WORK

HEALTH, EDUCATION, SANITATION & EMERGENCY RESPONSE

Better Health is the Cornerstone to Better Life

Good health is essential to a productive economy – to a country that wants to make economic progress. This is because healthy populations live longer, are more productive and are more financially self-reliant. In order to achieve good health, people require access to safe sanitation, clean water and immunizations along with attention to good personal hygiene practices and a balanced diet.

How You Help People Enjoy Healthier Lives

Your donations help millions of people in the USA and around the world. Poverty is often defined in absolute terms of low income – less than $2 a day, for example. But in reality, the consequences of poverty exist on a relative scale. The poorest of the poor, around the world, have the worst health. Within countries the evidence shows that in general, the lower an individual’s socioeconomic position… the worse their health.

Therefore, when you help train health workers and community members to raise awareness about good health practices, and when you help create opportunities to access medical care, countries can produce far-reaching positive results. This improvement in their health and social welfare is what your donations to Dr. Nana Health Awareness, Inc help to achieve.

As you might expect, it’s not easy to significantly change the “picture of health” for a community, a region or a country. But it can be done, step-by-step. And it all begins with YOU and your support to Dr. Nana Health Awareness, Inc. Illness can reduce household savings, lower learning ability, reduce job productivity and lead to a diminished quality of life that lessens their chances of rising out of poverty.

Long-Term Solutions for Battling Life threatening

      Diseases

Dr. Nana Health Awareness, Inc partners with local organizations and groups that have a good grasp of the language, culture and dynamics of a country or region. This grassroots approach has resulted in more effective and sustainable solutions.

124 Million Children and Teens Around the World Are Not In School

War, natural disaster, illness and poverty keep children from learning everyday. One in four young people living in poor countries is unable to read a single sentence.  You donation will improve the general welfare of children now and into their adulthood. Your support gives them the knowledge to protect themselves from disease, be more productive in society and go on to raise children who also attend school.

AGRICULTURE, FOOD, WATER SECURITY & ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES.

        Break the Poverty Cycle

Dr. Nana Health Awareness, Inc  is working hard to build foundations on which people can help themselves. It starts with a single person or family, and quickly spreads to a neighborhood … then to a community … and in time this is what leads to the economic growth and economic development of a country.

      Education Obstacles

Cameroon has one of the highest school attendance rates in Africa. However, because of child labor, many students miss a great deal of school. More than half of the children ages 5-14 are laborers – many in agriculture and the commercial production of agricultural products.

Girls attend school less regularly than boys because of cultural attitudes, domestic duties, early marriage, pregnancy, and sexual harassment.

Poverty is another obstacle. Primary school children must buy their own books, but many families are too poor to pay the book fees. As a result, nine out of ten children in Cameroon spend years in school having to learn without books. Often the only books they see during their primary school years are those belonging to the teacher.

Your support goes a long way in combating these health and education hardships.

      UNITED STATES AND CAMEROON

In the Land of Plenty, U.S.A., Many are in Need of Your Help

Since opening our doors, Dr. Nana Health Awareness, Inc not only had the vision to help people overseas – the poor, refugees or those struck by life threatening diseases – but to also lend a helping hand to people in need in the United States. That is why we have been having free Health fairs in the Washington DC area

CAMEROON, A COUNTRY THIRSTING FOR CHANGE

Nearly half of Cameroon’s population lives below the poverty line.

Cameroon has a 60% child mortality rate

Nearly half of Cameroon's 23 million people reside in rural areas.

Cameroonians have a very short life expectancy of only 55 years —among the lowest in the world.

      A Health Crisis

Endemic diseases severely undermine the population’s health. They include podoconiosis (podo), dengue fever, filariasis, leishmaniasis, malaria, meningitis, schistosomiasis and sleeping sickness

      • Podoconiosis -is a type of      elephantiasis (leg and foot swelling) found in farming communities in the      tropics. It’s triggered by an abnormal reaction to irritant mineral      particles found in soils of volcanic origins. People who don’t wear shoes      for cultural reasons or because of sheer poverty are at high risk. In      Cameroon, two million people (9% of the population) are at risk through      exposure to the irritant soil. It is endemic in Northwest Cameroon.      Several thousand people are affected. Simple things like washing your feet      and wearing shoes can prevent it – but most people don’t know this.
      • Dengue fever – is a severe, flu-like      illness that affects people of all ages, and is occasionally lethal. It’s      a mosquito-borne viral infection most prevalent in urban areas.
      • Sleeping sickness – is transmitted      by the tsetse fly. People in rural areas are at the greatest risk because      they depend on agriculture, fishing, animal husbandry or hunting which all      attract the tsetse fly. It affects the central nervous system.
